Creation Festival Fall Tour Details

(8/30/2008)

Creation Festival: The Tour, the blockbuster event of the Fall, is pleased to announce the dates and cities for its one-of-a-kind traveling experience.  Kicking off October 9 in Cincinnati, OH, the tour will make stops in 30-plus cities across the Northeast, Midwest and South and will include an element of local outreach in each city.  Tickets go on sale nationwide today through iTickets.com.

Patterned after the Creation Festivals, the nation's largest Christian music festival and the premier name in Christian music events, this "mini Creation on wheels" will be headlined by BEC Recordings band, Kutless, with special guests, Thousand Foot Krutch and Pillar.  The line up is rounded out by female-fronted rockers, Fireflight, Run Kid Run and Integrity's Worth Dying For providing a time of praise and worship.  KJ-52 will also perform and serve as MC for the night.  World-renowned speaker, Bob Lenz, will share the gospel each night, with Pastor Harry Thomas, Creation Festival director and co-founder and Teen Mania's founder, Ron Luce, also joining the tour on select dates. A special "pre-show" will kick off the event, featuring performances by Esterlyn and Capital Lights.

"I think Christian rock needs this tour", explains Rob Beckley, frontman for Pillar.  "It is a great effort from Creation to have the guts to put this together.  Christian rock needs the tour; one, for the strength of the line up and two, because this generation needs the masses to come together and be encouraged every night through music and leave stronger than they came in.  Pillar is excited to be a part of the tour, and I'm excited to see the other bands!"

The goal of Creation Festival: The Tour is to not only provide an exciting evening of great music, but also present an opportunity to impact the local community through outreach.   Each city will partner with a local ministry, such as a food bank or clothing drop and attendees are asked to bring a can of food, thick socks or a warm blanket to donate to the cause.  Details for the outreach for each date can be found online at www.creationfesttour.com/itstartswithyou.

"The center purpose and mission of what we do at the Creation Festivals and now thru this tour is to give 'Tribute to our Creator,'" says Nick Kulb, executive producer of the Tour. "That simple founding principal from 30 years ago is still in the forefront of our operations and is proving the test of time. This tour is extremely ministry and community active - we are looking forward to seeing thousands of lives changed as they accept Christ in the nightly alter call - we've teamed up with Compassion International and we've also launched the 'It Starts With You' campaign.  This tour is so much more than the artists performing nightly; collectively, each of the bands and speakers are heading out on a united front with the Good News of Christ Jesus and to see lives radically changed for Him."

Underoath Set To Release Fourth Album 'Lost In The Sound Of Separation'

(8/27/2008)

Coming off their gold-certified Define The Great Line disc, UNDERĜATH--who've built their career on being both heavy and experimental--return September 2 with the succinct and resolute LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION, their fourth album on Seattle's Tooth & Nail/Solid State Records.

A diverse musical display coupled with the input of six opinionated souls, LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION is their most accomplished album to date.

By trusting their instincts, pushing their songcraft to the limit and meticulously perfecting it with Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, Atlanta-based producer/drummer Matt Goldman and the skilled mixing of veteran David Bendeth, UNDEROATH has soared to new artistic heights with LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION. Catapulting them far beyond their previous works to create a sound that's both epic and intimate, brutal and beautiful, UNDERĜATH deliver one highlight after another including "A Fault Line A Fault Of Mine," the melodic reprieve of "Too Bright To See Too Loud To Hear" and "The Created Void," as well as the striking first single "Desperate Times, Desperate Measures." Defying the band's traditional approach, the stunning and uplifting "Too Bright To See, Too Loud To Hear" is a beautiful near-ballad destined to become a fan favorite.

UNDEROATH--lead vocalist SPENCER CHAMBERLAIN, guitarist TIM MCTAGUE, bassist GRANT BRANDELL, drummer AARON GILLESPIE, keyboardist CHRISTOPHER DUDLEY and guitarist JAMES SMITH--whose last three albums count combined sales in excess of one million copies--have worked diligently to reach this creative apex while building one of the biggest metalcore followings in the world.

Meanwhile, Hot Topic has come back on board with UNDERĜATH for a chain-wide early listening party. Last Friday, August 22, all 684 Hot Topic stores nationwide played the entire new UNDEROATH album LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION. During the listening event, fans received 10% off their entire purchase and fans that pre-ordered a copy of the new UNDEROATH CD received a special gift onsite.

UNDERĜATH will launch their world tour beginning Saturday, August 30 in Mexico City at the Centro De Convenciones. This show marks the group's first-ever visit to Mexico. On September 2, the day of release of LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION, UNDEROATH will hold a special in-store signing at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square beginning at 4:00pm (1540 Broadway, New York, NY; 212-921-1020). Later that evening, the band will perform at their CD release party at The Fillmore at Irving Plaza in the city. Following the CD kick off party, the group will launch the U.K. portion of the trek September 6. Tours of Germany, Italy, South Africa and Australia will follow. The band will return to the U.S. for a special show on October 4 at Honolulu's Pipeline Café before launching their major autumn nationwide U.S. tour on October 15 with Saosin, Devil Wears Prada, P.O.S., Person L and Famine supporting. Look for more dates to be announced shortly as UNDEROATH will tour throughout 2008 and 2009.

In other news, the group recently shot a video for "Desperate Times, Desperate Measures" with director Walter Robot (Modest Mouse "Missed the Boat") in Los Angeles. Expect an announcement about the clip's debut soon.

Stryper Frontman Michael Sweet Joins Legendary Rock Band BOSTON on Tour

(8/3/2008)

Stryper frontman and accomplished solo artist Michael Sweet is touring with the legendary band BOSTON this summer on a headlining tour of North America. Sweet is sharing lead vocals and playing guitar, performing the band's classic hits like "More than a Feeling," "Peace of Mind," "Amanda" and "Don't Look Back." Boston has sold over 30 million albums worldwide, including the band's 1976 self-titled debut which has sold over 17 million copies to date, and was the highest selling debut of all time.

The tour kicked off in Thunder Bay, Ontario on June 6th, and will take the band to 54 cities throughout the USA and Canada before wrapping up in San Juan, Puerto Rico on August 31st. Joining Boston on the tour is equally legendary rock band Styx.

"The tour has been a breath of fresh air and yet so surreal," says Michael Sweet. "I'm standing next to Tom Scholz, trading guitar solos and having the time of my life. Boston is such a big part of my musical background and this music helped shape who I am as an artist, writer, producer and musician. It truly is 'More Than a Feeling!'"

Prior to the commencement of the 2008 Boston tour, Stryper put the finishing touches on a brand new studio record to be released in 2009 and titled "Murder By Pride." The album will include a cover of the Boston song "Peace of Mind" that features Boston guitarist Tom Scholz on the recording. Ironically, Stryper had recorded "Peace of Mind" and planned to put it on their 2009 release long before Michael Sweet was even considered as a new member of Boston. Stryper's "Peace of Mind" featuring Tom Scholz is now available on iTunes and other digital stores.

With Stryper, Sweet has sold more than 8 million albums worldwide. The group's unprecedented 1986 album "To Hell with the Devil" went platinum and was named one of the "100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music" by CCM Magazine.

"I've been blessed with the opportunity to be a member of Boston," adds Sweet. "I feel that it's a new chapter in my life and I also feel that it's part of Gods plan upon my life at this time. My wife Kyle has been so supportive and it's quite astonishing - I couldn't do this without her."

Truth and Honesty Prevail On Debut From Since October

(5/20/2008)

Being humbled through life's experiences, the Florida natives, who call themselves Since October, prepare to release their national label debut on Tooth&Nail Records in one week.  Their musical unveiling, This is My Heart, releases May 27th, following the successful debut digital single, "Disaster," which is currently charting on the rock chart.

Produced by Travis Wyrick (P.O.D., Pillar, Disciple), This is My Heart is an honest and vulnerable musical portrait Since October hopes that listeners grab hold from the collection of heavy rock songs with no hidden agenda beyond connecting the hearts of those that listen. In addition, Marcos Curiel, guitarist of P.O.D. co-produced and co-wrote two tracks on the debut.

"I was really excited that Since October asked me to be involved in their record," shares Marcos Curiel. "We had a great time in the studio and the music sounds fantastic. When I think of Since October, I think great band, great bunch of guys, gators tots and good orange juice...not to mention straight ahead, melodic hard rock - with sunshine all over it!"

Frontman and lyricist Ben Graham shares, "It's truth.  It's real life stories.  And this record is a part of me.  And probably a part of me that most people would never see if I could not put it to music, it's honest.  It's just rock n' roll.  We love big melodies, we love harmonies, throw in a little screaming and that's Since October."

Introducing Since October:
Though this is the band's first label release, these four Bradenton, Florida stalwarts are far from freshmen.  They sold more than 5,000 copies of an independent release prior to signing to Tooth&Nail, and have toured extensively during the two-year stretch that has led them up to this point.  Having shared the stage with Seventh Day Slumber, Pillar, Disciple, Decyfer Down, and Underoath, they are more than gearing up for the hundreds of shows that are soon to follow.  Since October also just finished touring with Seventh Day Slumber throughout the spring. Not only have these four men experienced life's ups and downs, two of them share the same last name: vocalist/frontman Ben Graham and guitarist Luke Graham; Josh Johnson, bass and Audie Grantham, drums complete the band.

"We want to be successful enough to stay on the road and continue to do what we love," says Graham.  "We don't want to get bogged down with anything except our primary purpose and vision:  To encourage people with our music.  We would love to change lives along the way, and provide therapy for the listener."

Norma Jean Soon To Unveil 'The Anti Mother'

(5/13/2008)

NORMA JEAN--now in the studio with producer Ross Robinson (Slipknot, The Cure, Deftones, At The Drive In, Glassjaw) and engineer Ryan Boesch--will deliver their fourth album THE ANTI MOTHER late this summer on indie Solid State Records (exact release date TBA).  For a few of the album's songs, the band wrote in collaboration separately with Page Hamilton of Helmet and Chino Moreno of Deftones.

THE ANTI MOTHER marks the follow-up to the Atlanta-based post hardcore group's critically lauded 2006 Redeemer album, hailed by Revolver magazine as "a menacingly brutal slab of noisecore with just the right hint of melody, while Kerrang! declared it to be "a cauterizing kaleidoscope of earth-clawing turmoil and brutalized sonic adventure..."  Fans will get to experience THE ANTI MOTHER live this summer when NORMA JEAN-- CORY BRANDAN (vocals), SCOTTIE HENRY (guitars), JAKE SCHULTZ (bass), CHRIS DAY (guitars) and CHRIS RAINES (drums)--hit the road as one of the headlining main-stage acts on the Vans Warped Tour '08.

"The Anti Mother is a character we created which represents anything that is deceptive, and yet possesses an outwardly beautiful nature," lead singer CORY BRANDAN says of the album title and theme. Musically, he points out "this record is the most melodic album we've ever created, but it's definitely the heaviest record Norma Jean has done as well--and furious at that."

The spirit of collaboration highlights THE ANTI MOTHER.  "We were able to work with Page and Chino on two separate occasions, and as two of our biggest influences musically, it was definitely a moment having them here in the studio." CORY notes, "Page came to our practice space and for the first hour he was just showing us cool guitar chords, teaching us new things technically. The song we wrote with him is heavy as crap and full of energy--you'll notice his influence. For Chino, the writing was more impulsive. We were already in pre-production with Ross, but the song we wrote with Chino came out so diverse and anti-traditional. Chino ended up hanging out for a few days and we wrote two songs with him." Adds CORY: "Many bands have guest vocalists on their records, but we were inspired by the idea of collaborative songwriting with some of our favorite musicians. In a collaboration, no one is beyond reproach, and there is always something we can learn and someone to learn it from."

NORMA JEAN deliver live, and have performed on both the Vans Warped Tour and Ozzfest festivals--a distinction only a few bands can claim. Writing in the LA Weekly, Greg Burk remarked, "The first thing I noticed about Norma Jean...was...the quality of the noise--two guitars crashing out dissonant hi-lo chords in compellingly hurtful ways. The second thing was the rhythm--instruments vying back and forth in bazooka volleys rather than locking into standard metal's united riff-and-hammer; it was post-doomsday white funk."

On the Vans Warped Tour '08 all summer long, NORMA JEAN will join Against Me!, Angels and Airwaves, Bouncing Souls, Gym Class Heroes, Jack's Mannequin, Motion City Soundtrack, Paramore, Pennywise, Rise Against, Say Anything, Street Dogs, The Academy Is..., The All-American Rejects and The Vandals, among many others.

Here are critical soundbites for NORMA JEAN's Redeemer (2006, Solid State):

"Norma Jean keep [Redeemer] free of any self-absorbed instrumental tracks, allowing the record to flow and rage continuously for almost 45 minutes...Redeemer's angst and fury are undeniable."
--Kevin Wade, ALTERNATIVE PRESS (December 2006)

"A fine blend of metal, hardcore, prog and noise."
--Greg Prato, METAL EDGE (June 2007)

"The unstoppable juggernaut of southern death rock that is Norma Jean has matured into a major force-to-be-reckoned with in the music world."
--Tom Pharo, KOTORI (July 2006)

"Redeemer is a smeared amalgam of evangelism, scorching rhythm, tangled lead guitar work and violent vocal strokes across a hard-rock canvas. Released on the prestigious indie label Solid State Records, Redeemer is at once focused and articulated, heavy and personal, concerning itself with the primacy of sound and expression."
--OMAHA READER (Omaha, NE; November 2006)

"[Redeemer] isn't a typical metalcore release, eschewing breakdowns and obvious mosh parts for progressive song structures and subtle atmospherics."
--Jonah Bayer, CLEVELAND FREE TIMES (November 2006)

"'A Grand Scene for a Color Film' sets the tone for the disc with molten waves of stun-gun guitar, shock-and-awe percussion, and blown-throat bellowing courtesy of singer Cory Brandan. From that double-distorted point on, Norma Jean gives you a good idea what metal experimentalists Neurosis might sound like mainlining Black Flag."
--Mike Usinger, GEORGIA STRAIGHT (Vancouver, BC; November 2006)

"Cory Brandan experiments with vocal lucidity while preserving his intense tone, and the dual guitars--declaring temporary truces from their constant clashing -- occasionally march lockstep, generating thunderous grooves."
--Andrew Miller, THE STRANGER (Seattle, November 2006)

Two Solo Projects For Guitartist Jason Truby, Formerly With P.O.D.

(5/8/2008)

With experiences such as touring the world, recording with renowned producers and selling millions of records, one would think they have it all. But Jason Truby knew he had to stay true to himself.

Get To Know Jason Truby
You may know the name Jason Truby from his days in the band Living Sacrifice or as part of P.O.D., when he joined the group back in 2003. But this famed guitarist, once mentored by Phil Keaggy and who has since graduated to be his peer and friend, has been writing and performing music for eighteen years and teaching himself every step along the way.

After four years of songwriting and recording with P.O.D. (Testify, 2006; Greatest Hits: The Atlantic Years, 2006; The Warriors EP, Volume 2, 2005; and Payable On Death, 2003), Truby decided to continue his musical career on his own, pursuing his own writings based out of his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas. With a unique musical palate geared more toward classical and jazz/fusion flavorings, this self-taught guitarist is heavily influenced not only by legends such as Keaggy but also by Pat Metheny, Radiohead, Michael Hedges, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Stanley Jordan, Bob Dylan, Herbie Hancock, U2, Wes Montgomery, to name a few.

Ready to share his individual and distinctive musical talents with the world, Truby wrote and released his first solo instrumental project, String Theory, in 2006 during the same time P.O.D.'s Testify was hitting the airwaves and store shelves. String Theory, a very introspective project, easily exhibited Truby's diversity as a writer. This experience allowed him to perform for the very first time as a solo artist at Denver's Guitar Festival in the fall of 2006, where he shared the stage with Keaggy as well as Glassharp. It was at the end of that year where Truby followed his calling to be home and pursue a solo career full time.

With even more songs to share with his fan base, Truby wrote and produced Waiting On The Wind, his second instrumental project that released this past November. He is now preparing for his first solo vocal project, slated to release later this year.

Upon describing his distinctive solo compositions, Truby explains, "I believe that art and music should speak for itself. The more innovative and creative, the stronger the impact. For me to attempt to define what is beyond words would in turn defeat the point of the music itself."

Truby continues, "These sounds are designed to touch each one of us in a different way. It is my opinion that we let the music define itself in the way each of us receives it. Music is merely a voice given to express the human emotion where words cannot."

Through His Musical Career
Along with his numerous other accolades, Truby has been featured in such publications as Christian Musician, USA Today, Blender, Spin, Rolling Stone, Relevant, and CCM. He also appears in John Schroeder's book "Between The Strings," a book compiled of guitar legends' stories where he shares the pages alongside Les Paul, B.B. King, Peter Frampton and Chet Atkins, among others.

While part of P.O.D., Truby and the band co-wrote the single "Sleeping Awake," the title track to the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack (2003), which sold over one million copies nationwide. They were also featured on the Passion of the Christ soundtrack for their penned song, "Truly Amazing." The album Payable On Death, co-written by the band, went gold in the U.S. and sold one million copies worldwide. This project also featured the instrumental song "Eternal," written and performed by Truby along with Keaggy.

Jason Truby, his wife and their three children reside in Little Rock, Arkansas. He is managed by Brian Skaggs of Narrow Road Management, based near Little Rock. He has recently signed with booking agency Street Level Artists Agency, who also represent such artists as Keaggy, Michael Card, Ashley Cleveland, Chris Rice, and many more.

UNDEROATH will release their first-ever live CD and concert DVD SURVIVE, KALEIDOSCOPE May 27 on Tooth & Nail/Solid State. The DVD--which features 14 tracks back-to-back--was shot by Art & Industry and edited by Ryan Gardner of the Audible Diversion Group.  "The footage on the live DVD came out far above our expectations, and Adam and Beau outdid themselves in the audio department," says UNDEROATH guitarist TIM MCTAGUE.

The acclaimed hard rock group are renowned worldwide for their cathartic and frenzied live performances, as underlined by SURVIVE, KALEIDOSCOPE. Revolver magazine has noted that "Underoath have become one of the most punishing metalcore powerhouses around and--in the pouring rain--they delivered an astonishingly brutal set that proved them worthy of the buzz surrounding them." Metro Times (Detroit, MI) weighed in by saying, "While Define the Great Line added melody and dynamics without sacrificing the intensity of the sextet's metal-hardcore hybrid, nothing, compares to the band's writhing live performances." Elsewhere, as noted in the Providence Journal, "Underoath were the headliners; with punishing bass and drums, crunching guitar and a horror-movie tinge to singer Spencer Chamberlain's delivery that all give the religious themes of the lyrics universal appeal." Creative Loafing (Atlanta, GA) summed it up in one word:  "incendiary."

UNDEROATH has announced a special pre-order of SURVIVE, KALEIDOSCOPE at a discounted price through their new merchandising store which is run by the Audible Diversion Group. Skillet and Disciple Rock The 2008 GMA Dove Awards

(4/24/2008)
Atlantic/Ardent/INO artist Skillet and INO Record's Disciple are celebrating rock wins at last night's 39th annual GMA Dove Awards with each bringing home their first career statues.

After 16 nominations, Skillet won "Rock Recorded Song of the Year" for "Comatose" written by John Cooper and Brian Howes from their 2006 release of the same name. "The GMA Award show was absolutely awesome!  It made me feel even more proud to be a part of the Christian music industry.  Winning the Dove was an unexpected highlight of the night, second only to saying 'Hi' to Amy Grant and giving her a high five," says Skillet front man John Cooper. Skillet is currently headlining their COMATOSE tour and selling out numerous venues across the country, recently including New York City's Grand Ballroom.

Disciple took top honors in the "Rock Album of the Year" category for their sophomore project "Scars Remain" (2006). With seven nominations to the band's name, lead singer Kevin Young is pumped about their first win saying "We are all so very happy and honored to have won the Dove Award for 'Rock Album of the Year' with 'Scars Remain.' This was our eighth nomination and our first win.  Over the years I always would get butterflies every time our category would come up , but would always hear someone else's name called every time until last night.  So needless to say, I was truly shocked. We are so thankful to God for using our music, and to the Gospel Music Association for recognizing us." Currently on the "Cross the Line" tour with Superchick, the band is also working on a new project set to release this fall.

Skillet's explosive 2006 Lava/Atlantic/Ardent/INO Records GRAMMY-nominated release, Comatose follows 2004's Collide, which launched the group into the public eye and garnered the band their first prestigious Grammy nomination. A critical fave, Comatose has become their best-selling project to date, doubling the sales of Collide in half the time. In follow up to packed out headline club shows, a tour with Flyleaf, and summer festivals Skillet spent last fall opening for mainstream rockers Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace.  In the process of becoming one of the hardest working, most rocking, and broadly appealing acts of its generation, radio welcomed Comatose with open arms, as the first single, "Rebirthing" spent seven-weeks at No.1 on Christian Rock. Their second single, "The Last Night," also took the top spot, this time at both Rock and CHR (CRW/R&R), while their latest singles, "The Older I Get" (CHR/Rock) and "Comatose" have become their third and fourth consecutive No. 1 singles. At the end of 2007 the band was lauded with R&R's No. 1 Christian CHR Song of the Year for "The Last Night", which was also R&R's No. 2 Christian Rock song of the year.  In addition, Skillet was named 2007's No. 2 top artist on both the CHR and ROCK year end lists.
